Dr Megan Garner-Smith awarded Royal Academy of Engineering fellowship

QuSIT is pleased to share that Dr Megan Garner-Smith has been awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering UK Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.

The Academy has selected 24 early-career researchers creating innovative solutions to develop technologies that will help shape the UK’s future prosperity and global competitiveness, and build the UK’s next generation of research talent.

Dr Garner-Smith, a QuSIT-affiliated Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham, has been recognised for developing a portable, highly stable, and precise cold atom clock that can advance applications such as unmanned aerial vehicle detection.

A press release announcing the full list of awardees is available here.

Co-funded for the first time by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) alongside the Government Office for Science, which has supported the programme for ten years, the UK Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellowship has awarded £13.7 million over 10 years supporting 62 researchers.

Submissions for the UK Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2027 will open in December.
